Official: Rally Sweden is a part of WRC 2014
Today it was announced that Rally Sweden is one of the 13 events in the World Rally Championship for 2014. The decision was taken by the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
- Feels of course good that we now have an official decision of the date and calendar for 2014, said the Swedish Rally AB’s CEO Glenn Olsson on Friday evening when the news came from the FIA.
Rally Sweden 2014 will run in week 6 (3-9 February), but the exact days the rally will run is still a bit unclear.
- We have had a discussion with the WRC promoter about getting to run the event Wednesday to Saturday instead of traditional Thursday-Sunday. Largely for that Sunday in week 6 clash in time with particular men’s downhill at the Olympic games in Sochi. They understand our problems and they also want for themselves to avoid such collisions, explains Glenn Olsson.
In the next couple of days is also the first proposal to itinerary and route is sent to the FIA and manufacturer teams.
- I have not been worried that we would not be in the calendar, but it is of course always good that it is now officially clear from the FIA that we can continue to deliver a high-quality event in 2014 as well, said sporting director and clerk of the course Christina Lundqvist Viklund about today’s decision and she continues.
- Our ambition is to run Wednesday-Saturday, but we can not confirm that this is the case before the FIA and the teams had their say on the itinerary and route proposal.
